On my first day of returning to the Aspen Unit in October 2018, I created a custom nursing discharge note template. I was able to grant access to the specific nurses I was working with on the floor, all of whom indicated the note was helpful and sped this step of the discharge process. A hospital wide, mandatory nursing note was later introduced.
Set to Scan
In September of 2018, I was able to help the OAP unit with a non-functioning med scanner. This malfunction had forced the nurses to “sign off” each individual med over the previous several days. I was able to find the needed document within the Learning Home Dashboard, re-calibrate the scanner, and instructed the staff where to find the re-calibration document if the issue were ever to come up again.

In October of 2018, while working on the floor I noticed a patient become slightly frustrated when a nurse called the patient by the name listed in the patient chart header within the EHR. I was able to show the staff present how to add a “preferred name” within the Demographics section of Epic. This feature does not change the legal name, but will display the preferred name in multiple areas of the e-chart.
